About the Book

You don’t become the fiancé of one of the most powerful crime lords in the city without understanding exactly how gritty and depraved the world truly is… and how to thrive in the inferno.

After five years spent under his controlling thumb, Daniela knows her position with a man like Vincent Stacatto is precarious, but as long as she plays by the rules of his “game”, she’s safe…

Until she’s taken by the devil.

Kidnapped by a rival boss, Daniela becomes a pawn between two powerful forces, and just another casualty in a bloody game of chess. But to get to the top, and stay at the top, you have to fight dirty and hold nothing back, because the most dangerous piece on the board isn’t the King.

Contains Mature subject matter not suitable for those under 18.

My Review

Rating: ★★★★★

"Evil shouldn't be...craved."

It took me three days to finish this book, three whole days of wandering in the dark corner of literature, going through hell and inferno, yet craving every single bit.

Lana Sky doesn't sugarcoat her words and delivers them to you on a silver platter. Oh no. She is as brutal as her characters in her books, seeking ways to torture you into an emotional chasm without an ounce of empathy. Lana's writing is glorious and I've been kicking myself for not discovering her works sooner. I thought I've read really dark contemporary before, but I guess I've finally reached the crescendo of my adventure.

I'm going to be honest here. This is definitely not a book for everyone. If you think a sailor's mouth is filthy, then you better stay far far away from this book because the words aren't just mere profanities, they are meant to be demeaning and hurtful, the kind that strips you off your confidence and cringes with tears. The twisted hero in the story, Dante/Lucifer/Devil/Kitty as he goes by many names isn't your usual knight in the shining armor. He is an animal, void of any emotions, a mask of a man he once was, possessive and brutal and you might hate him for everything he had done and will do in the book.

And yet, Dante and Daniela makes the perfect sense.

If the Devil has a queen, Daniela is her name. The twisted duo brings the term twisted to a whole new level, I can't even begin to describe the amount of toxicity that fueled their relationship! It's the kind of story that you will have to read and experience it for yourself.

From the world-building to the violent feuds, the author certainly did not hold anything back. Lana Sky is a breath of fresh air, and her words are like a brand of heroin I can't seem to shake the craving.

"The movies like to make the battles in a so-called "gang war" seem violent. Messy."
"In reality - like any true war - the fighting was done mostly from the shadows."

I can't effing wait for the release of book 2, I'm eager to be consumed by darkness again.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book provided by Xpresso Book Tours and the author.
