About the Book

Three years ago she was left in pieces . . . Most college freshmen love the newfound freedom of living on campus, but none of them craves it like Beth Caplan. One ill-fated night when she was fifteen left her locked in a posh prison of private tutors. It's for the best, everyone said, and maybe it was. But after years of hard work and healing, the one person who never thought of her as broken could be the one to break her all over again. And Beth can't seem to stay away now any more than she could all those years ago.

As soon as David March learned his best friend's little sister was enrolling at his school, he promised to look after her, and promised himself he'd keep a safe distance. But the sweet little girl he'd grown up with has transformed into a gorgeous young woman, and she's attracting attention from people she shouldn't-like the ex who nearly destroyed her and a strange new student with a disturbing habit of showing up wherever Beth goes. But for David, the most troubling discovery is realizing that he doesn't just want Beth to be safe. He wants her to be his.

My Review

4.5 Bea Stars

Danielle Pearl once again left me in Pieces with her take on best friend's sister romance.

Utterly devastating, off-limits and scorchingly intense, In Pieces is an emotional roller coaster ride from the first page to the last! I just couldn't get enough of this remarkably heart-wrenching series.

After a glimpse of David and Beth in In Ruins, I just know from the bottom of my heart that their story would be heartbreaking and phenomenal, much like Car and Tucker's story. Knowing Danielle Pearl, she has a way with words that connect with readers on such an emotional level.

Three years ago, Beth Caplan almost took her own life, so going to college isn't just a new chapter in her life but also her chance to move on from her past and reinvent herself. So when her brother's best friend, David made it his mission to become her personal bodyguard, she was annoyed at his overbearing protectiveness yet found herself succumbing to the attraction that existed between them. But that wasn't the only problem.

With her ex back in town, the presence of a shady newcomer and a rapist on the loose, Beth, who is trying hard to mend the broken parts might once again find herself... in pieces.

OH.

All the ANGST and DRAMA and ROMANCE was incredibly ADDICTING. I am high on Beth and David's whirlwind romance. Considering the whole crushing on the older brother's best friend is one of my favorite romance tropes, I devoured this book like a starved maniac. The plot progression was slightly slow yet it was just the right pace for the story as the author walked us through Beth and David's history and to the present. As Beth and David have known each other since young, there's a sense of closeness and comfort that is lacking when it comes to other characters, which I find myself to be inexplicably drawn to.

I also enjoyed the fact that the author added an element of suspense when she threw a stalker and a rapist into the mix. I was kept at the edge of my seat the whole time and the reveal caught me by surprise.

Highly recommended coming-to-age series that you have to one-click today!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book provided by Social Butterfly PR and the author. Thank you for the reviewing opportunity!
