Safe Bet by Monica Murphy
Release Date: January 10th, 2017
Series: The Rules
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Sydney Walker’s new job is perfect. As the live-in nanny to the most famous quarterback in the NFL and his beautiful wife, she couldn’t have it any better. Their kids are adorable. Her bosses are more than generous. Plus, there are hot football players at the house all the time. Life can’t get much better than this.

Until her life turns into an absolute nightmare. The media is abuzz with rumors that she and her boss Drew Callahan are having a torrid affair. Everyone knows the truth—except the public. So Drew’s wife Fable comes up with the perfect idea.

She creates a fake relationship between Sydney and one of the rookie players on Drew’s team. Wade Knox is forever indebted to Drew and Fable and readily agrees to the set up. Pretending to be in a romantic relationship with the hot nanny for a week—how hard can it be?

Crazy how it only takes one week for two people to fall head over heels in love…

(This mash-up new adult romance features characters from both the One Week Girlfriend series and The Rules series.)

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of Safe Bet provided by the publisher and the author. Thank you for Wade's Story.

FAKE. RELATIONSHIP. SIGN ME UP!!!

Those are the best kind of romance and I was so excited to dive into Wade and Sydney's story. I was expecting a lot of drama (because I live for that) and heated moments, unfortunately, I had mixed feelings for this one.

I was first introduced to Murphy's works through One Week Girlfriend and Drew + Fable has this intense magnetic pull that absorbed me into their world almost immediately, therefore I was beyond ecstatic to have them return and played a huge part of the plot. However, I am also immensely intrigued by Wade and Sydney's attraction, and yet I thought their story ended rather abruptly just when they started to explore their relationship.

I am rooting for a Wade story and I am beyond words when Safe Bet arrived in my Kindle. I love how Monica took her time exploring her characters in the start and I liked how they hatched up the fake relationship plan!

Wade was the kind of guy who was driven by his passion for success, his dedication was admirable and he is an alpha male in every single way possible, bedroom included. I loved that despite his insecurities towards relationships, he was very invested in the fake relationship he was in and acted like a true gentleman towards Sydney. On the other hand, Sydney was a young character who made a couple of stupid mistakes and was cast out of her house as a way to make her grow up. I liked Sydney because she was a sweet girl, but perhaps because I have outgrown my young adult age, I tend to roll my eyes at some of her actions.

The only thing that bugged me about the book was its pace. I really liked how it started but things took a rapid turn 70% into the book. Before I knew it, I was reaching the ending pages and had to stop and flip back a few pages to make sure I did not miss anything - I was a tad disappointed in the drama I was hoping for.

Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable read that put a smile on my face! This definitely made me want to re-read One Week Girlfriend though!

  1. Is this a spin-off series from One Week Girlfriend? I really liked Drew and Fable, so I am excited to see them again. :)
