Dreamland Book Blog

There are three things I have to protect: My heart, my scars and my life. Even from my best friend.

Some secrets have the power to change lives.
Or ruin them.
What I didn’t expect was for my best friend to walk away when I needed him most.
I made the only decision I could.
And I have no regrets–even if Lars Trouble can’t handle that.
Now I just have to convince my broken heart it’s better off without him.

***

I don’t do secrets, I hate deceivers and I’m not in love with my best friend.

Or so I thought.
As the man in the shadows, the drummer of the Darling Devils, the person I rely on most is my best friend.
That is until I discover Naomi is a liar.
If walking away from her was hard, learning she isn’t mine to love feels impossible.
And just when I think it’s all finally coming back together, fate steps in and proves me wrong.
But when you love someone, you do the only thing you can. You fight for your love story to begin.

A friends-to-lovers romance to the beat of the Darling Devils – the legends of music.

This novel contains chapters with difficult scenes that might trigger some readers. Please reach out to me for specific details.

What a breath of fresh air!

I hardly come across any books with an Asian woman as the main character and a sassy one at that, so picking up this book has been a gem!

Haven't read the first book, I was a bit confused when I first started the story but the writing didn't make you feel like you missed out on a lot seeming as Trouble can be read as a standalone. We were introduced to the troubled drummer who seems to be the most put together in the band and his best friend, Naomi who is running from the demons of her own.

They formed the most unlikely friendship, but with the things that were happening, it gets harder to deny the underlying chemistry they shared. Will they thrive in the intensity or risk their relationship to go up in flames?

It was a rollercoaster ride of emotions indeed, there was so much drama going on that every page was a page-turner, I was in love with Naomi's tenacity to become her own person and the things she had to endure just made my heart breaks.

Romance, angst, and a whole lot of emotions, highly recommended to the romance junkie out there!
Can't wait for the next one!

My Review

Ratings: 4 Craving Clement Stars

I never expected a novella to pull me in so quickly, nor would I ever expect it to turn me into a puddle of mush and literally craving for more.

Love wasn't part of the agreement, but those Sunday escapades tangling in the sheets with the sinfully delicious Judas Clement has turned Jenna into a lovesick puppy - the only problem? He was her boss and ran in a totally different social circle. While he is the King, she is the peasant. Any form of relationship between them is forbidden, yet that did nothing to stop her from falling for him. With his family and a gorgeous woman standing in their way, will Jenna triumph and finally get the man? Or will she succumb to it all?

Despite the story being a short, it was filled with passionate moments and intense emotions - the kind that makes your heart pinch and eyes water - and I enjoyed every single second of it. The plot development was good despite it being a novella (I have my fair share of horrible novellas, which is why I'm pretty skeptical when it comes to short stories) and I highly recommend it!

If you are looking for a quick read with hot s*x and a dose of drama, this is the perfect concoction for you!

My Review

Rating: 4.5 Locked Down Stars!

I love military romance, I love reading how a character can overcome their fears and trauma and find themselves in the process. But, it's not every day you come across a character so engrossing, you felt every bit of pain, fear, and emotions coursing through their minds - and as if Deaton couldn't stop surprising me, I've never read a military romance with a woman as the main!

Although I started the book a little off-focus because I haven't read the previous books in the series (in which I quickly realized my mistake and also devoured the other books), Deaton's writing has a way to suck you into her world and I found myself completely immersed into it all.

Filled with action and angst, this is an intense book that devours your attention and makes you craving for more! Prepare to be locked down ;)

About the Author:

Tarina has spent her entire life in and around the military - first as a dependent and then as an enlisted Air Force member.

In 2015, a friend challenged her to complete NaNoWriMo. She dusted off one of the many stories she'd started over the years, threw it in the trash, and started all over.
Her debut novel, Stitched Up Heart, released in September 2016. The military gives her plenty of material to work with and she strives to create characters who authentically represent all facets of the military life - the good and the not so great.

Tarina is still active duty and a single mom of five-year-old twins. Her favorite hobby is sleep. She has delusions of retiring from the military and being a stay-at-home mom.

S’more to Lose
Beth Merlin
(The Campfire Series #2)
Publication date: December 5th 2017
Genres: Adult, Contemporary

About the Book

Four years after her life-changing summer, Gigi Goldstein thinks saying goodbye to Camp Chinooka means saying hello to a brand new life. Now faced with a second chance at her career, she is filled with more hope than she’s felt in a long time. Her design house is taking the fashion world by storm, even attracting notice of Victoria Ellicott, the fashionable British socialite who just happens to be engaged to the future king of England. When Gigi is chosen to design the royal wedding dress in London, she is forced to confront her ex-fiancé, Perry Gillman, now a successful composer with a hit show on the West End.

But when Gigi learns Perry’s been dating Victoria’s sister, who rivals her in looks, style and sophistication, Gigi can’t help but feel inadequate in everything. Her world begins to crumble as she develops a creative block so debilitating, she fears that a wedding dress of royal proportions is never going to happen. Even a budding relationship with the handsome, wealthy, and rich Viscount of Satterley can’t make her forget about Perry and her inability to get over him. As the world gears up for the wedding of the century, Gigi is on the brink of buckling under the immense pressure of the uncertainties of her future and failures of her past.

Will she be able overcome her creative paralysis to design the dress of Victoria’s dreams, or will she break down now that she has even s’more to lose?

My Review

Rating: 4 S'More Stars!

To be honest, I was rather hesitant to start this book particularly after the ending of book 1 (which seems perfect actually) because I've grown to love Perry and Gigi, and I couldn't bear the thought of them not being together. Of course, curiosity lured me in - I couldn't resist returning to the warmth of Camp Chinooka!

What I did not expect was to fall completely in love with the series for the second time, and even though it ended with a cliffhanger that left you pulling out your hair (at least it was to me), I wouldn't trade those hours reading into the night for anything else.

I was legitly torn between Perry and Gideon, and I typically avoid romance with two love interests, but somehow Beth's works are like a charm that enchant me to keep on reading this series. However...shhh...because I fell in love with Perry first, I'm still rooting for their HEA.

I can't wait for book 3!

Wheeler
Sara Butler Zalesky
Publication date: July 4th 2016
Genres: Adult, Romance, Sports, Suspense

About the Book

Known as the Ice Queen of the peloton, pro cyclist Loren Mackenzie rarely shows emotion in the heat of competition; she leads her team with quiet strength and determination. But her successes have not come without suffering, and her tragic past is hidden inside tarnished armor.

While out on a training ride with her cycling team near Enfield, England, a chance meeting quickly develops into an unexpected whirlwind romance. But a relationship with an A-list celebrity brings with it the microscope of tabloid-media attention, which expose jealousy and rivalry that threaten to undermine Loren’s leadership of her team.

The new romance also reveals a dangerous obsession, culminating in a terrifying confrontation with someone from Loren’s past. Her injuries not only put her chances at the World Championship in jeopardy but also bring forth memories of a life she had long buried – for good reason.

Can Loren open her heart to the love she has held at a distance, or will her fear ultimately defeat her?

The follow up novel in the Wheeler series is coming soon.

My Review

Ratings: 4 Wheeler Stars!

Wheeler, just like its unique title and cover, was a breath of fresh air in the world of sports romance.

Never had I felt so invested in learning the technicalities of a sport or feel so intrigued by the game, it amazes me how much of the author's passion and knowledge of cycling was translated into this book. Most of the sports romance I binge on have a common theme to it, we are often sidetracked by the romance that it the sports aspect was not given much weight, but somehow this book has a perfect balance and it was such a page-turner!

Loren, the female, was such a strong and independent female character that you learned to respect and love throughout the book. I could list all the things that I loved about her, but that would be a whole story of its own, haha! Her persona is infectious and I found myself drawn to her inexplicably, just like how Graham gravitated towards her since their first meeting..or "accident", it's no wonder that he desperately tried to hunt her down!

If you are looking for sports romance with the great characters, plot, romance and a whole lot of sports, you found a hidden gem!

About the Author

Sara was born in the wee hours of a November night in New York City. When her family moved to a small borough in northwestern New Jersey, she had little choice but to move as well. Self-sufficiency is a tough thing for a toddler.

The dichotomy of being the middle child of three, but the only girl, was difficult, as typically no one really pays attention to a middle child. Mostly, Sara spent her time creating fanciful stories in her head when she should have been focused on other things, an issue that continues to this day.

Most of these stories have never been shared, let alone completed. This all changed in the spring of 2015, when Sara was encouraged by a friend to expand upon a short story she had accidentally emailed to him. The result is 'Wheeler’, a romantic, women's fiction/sport novel, which combines the author's romantic inclinations and her passion for cycling.

Sara currently resides in the suburbs of Philadelphia, PA, with her loving husband and their son. She is a paralegal for a boutique law firm in Chester County, Pa, an avid road cyclist and indoor cycling instructor at a national chain.

Follow the author’s blog at sarabutlerzalesky.wordpress.com or on Twitter @sarazalesky. She does a little dance every time someone ‘follows’ her on Twitter. Really.

About the Book

Erin Doyle can’t stand man whores, and she particularly can’t stand Brendan Langstrom — the guy who avoids relationships like the plague and never sleeps with the same girl twice. She and Brendan have waged a war of mutual disdain for years, but when Brendan picks up the pieces after Erin's world unravels, they’ll both be forced to admit that beneath their dislike is something else entirely — something they’re not supposed to feel. Because Brendan isn’t just her nemesis … he’s also her fiance’s best friend.

My Review

Ratings: 4 stars

**I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book generously provided by the author. Thank you for the reviewing opportunity!**

On the outside, Erin has it all - the perfect fiance, a stable job, and a house anyone could only dream of. For years she has deluded herself that she was content with her life, although she has skeletons in her closet, she hid them well from her fiance all the while pretending that she was nothing less than perfect.

"I like the fact that when Rob sees me, he sees the girl I might have been instead of the one I actually am."

But her Stepford life came to an end the moment Brendan Langstorm waltzed back into her life. Not only does she hates him, he was also her fiance's best friend - the ultimate forbidden fruit. Yet Brendan's return doesn't only cause old feelings to resurface, he brought the old Erin back to life and made her realize that her life was a lie, and she has been drowning all this time.

We first met Erin and Brendan in Waking Olivia (another sob-worthy book I highly recommend!!) and you wouldn't have an inkling that both of them may have ended up together. Erin and Brendan were such polar opposites but I couldn't help falling in love with the soft and kind-hearted Erin and the troublemaker Brendan.

As expected of Elizabeth's writing, they are filled with angst, emotions and has the ability to bring out your worst cry-face. Erin's struggles and emotions at being caged and hopeless were beyond heartbreaking, and her relationship with Brendan wasn't all fluff and sugary sweet. Although Brendan wasn't your classic prince charming and it takes time for him to grow on you, he was always a sweetheart in my book. A player with many layers.

Vividly touching and heart wrenching, drown yourself in Erin and Branden's story....and perhaps also in your own tears :p

*This book can be read as a standalone.*

About Elizabeth:

She drinks an embarrassing amount of Diet Mountain Dew, and would exist entirely off of candy corn were it socially acceptable to do so.
