Shadows of the Forest
Emma Michaels

Publication date: November 5th 2016
Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult

Everyone is dying to live in the Shadows of the Forest.
They gave me three rules to follow in exchange for my brother’s life:
1. Do not enter the West Wing;
2. Do not go outside after darkness falls; and
3. There is only one exit; The Gates.

This is what happened when I broke them…

Happy Friday!

First of all, I would like to apologise for missing out on some of your FF replies last week because I was away to Singapore and wasn't able to go online much. I was supposed to attend a concert in Singapore but unfortunately they postponed it the day before I was supposed to fly! Instead of "burning" the ticket, I decided to go on a short vacation. It was a huge bummer but I did managed to visit the Universal Studios (for the first time after 21 years of waiting) and screamed my lungs out going on every single roller coaster ride (stay away from cyclon if you do not want to plunge to your death - just kidding! - I screamed every word of profanity during that 20 seconds of ride, did I mentioned I was afraid of heights?)

The first series that popped into my head was Melissa de la Cruz's Blue Blood series.

Back then during my Twilight days, I was on a vampire-seeking mission and there was when I'd came across the BB series. It was such a hype that everyone was either talking about it, buying or reading it and it landed on the bestseller section in my favourite bookstore. Promising really! So I decided to purchase my first book and guess what, it ended with a 3-star rating (because I hated giving anything lower than a 2).

I liked the idea of the story, but I had such a hard time with it I never planned to continue with the series. There's just something off about the character's relationship and I tried so hard to connect with them, I just gave up in the end. I've been putting off this series for 5 years and I guess I won't be revisiting it anytime sooner.

Title: A Fool for You (Foolproof Love #3)
Author: Katee Robert
Genre: Sports Romance, Adult
Expected Publication Date: October 3rd, 2016
Publisher: Entangled Publishing

It’s been thirteen years since Hope Moore left Devil’s Falls, land of sexy cowboys and bad memories. Back for the weekend, she has no intention of seeing the man she never got over…or the two of them getting down and dirty. It’s just a belated goodbye, right? No harm, no foul.

Until six weeks later, when her pregnancy test comes back positive…

Daniel Rodriguez hasn’t forgiven himself for how things went down with Hope all those years ago. He knows she’s better off without him, but when she shows up on his doorstep, panicking because she’s pregnant with his baby, he can’t help seeing it as a chance to make up for the past.

Too bad Hope has no intention of going along with his plans.

I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for the reviewing opportunity!

May contain spoilers.

I had such high expectations for this book only to result in such a letdown.

From the lovely cover to the promising blurb, I thought I was in for an emotional ride. To my utter dismay, not only there weren't any tears, I was skimming through the pages because I couldn't stand how Daniel was wallowing in his guilt and self-pity and yet he chose to abandon Hope after the accident thirteen years ago.

The pace was good (aside from the abrupt and unresolved ending) and the writing was captivating, but I just thought that the story could have taken a better turn. It would have been such a perfect second chance novel, instead it was just guilty of certain book cliches that had my eyes rolling. Guy abandoned girl after an accident that he believed was his fault, after thirteen years, girl moved back to their small town only to discover that guy hasn't moved on. A few minutes into their reunion, guy and girl can't keep themselves off each other and ended up having sex, which resulted in *drumrolls* - pregnancy. It would have turned out to be a good story, if the guy didn't repeat the same mistake, TWICE.

I'll admit. It wouldn't be such a huge problem for me if Daniel wasn't about his guilt 24/7, I've gone from feeling emphatic to annoyed by the end of the book, and the ending deserves an epilogue!

Despite my thoughts on this book, I haven't read the previous books in the series but I'm planning to do so, seemingly it has been garnering positive reviews from readers. I like Robert's writing and how she sets the pace, but maybe this just isn't the book for me. Looking forward to the rest though!

Until one mistake lands him in boiling hot waters. When his company orders him to the LOVE ADDICTS ANONYMOUS Rehab Center, he better get his affairs in order or else he loses his seat on the company board. Love isn’t supposed to be addictive. But for Vicky Sullivan it is. A true romantic at heart, she comes with a bit of a stalking tendency, and is completely not adverse to commitment. But who’s Kade to judge? As someone who’s seeking commitment and afraid of never finding love, she’s the type of woman he wouldn’t usually hit on. Except, she’s hot and keeps avoiding him…yes, even after seeing his private parts naked in all their glory. Kade isn’t known as the tall, dark and ruthless businessman for no reason. Romance isn’t in the air, more like wild between the sheets action with no expectations. Vicky’s convinced she can resist, but Kade has other plans for her. Title: Everything She Ever Wanted
Author: Liz Durano
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Model: Franggy Yanez
Expected Release Date: Oct. 18th, 2016
Hosted by: Lady Amber’s PR

I was never into fairy tales.

But discovering a real live princess in my house reminds me of the story of the three bears and some chick who breaks into their pad, eats all their food, and sleeps in their beds.

Just like the one that’s in mine right now.

At first, I thought she was dead, but the rise and fall of her chest told me that she was just passed out, probably from the half-empty bottle of Bordeaux I’d been saving for a special occasion. Two grand down the drain, courtesy of Goldi-effing-locks here, who’s not only passed out cold, but she’s also naked.

I should walk out right now and let her be…

But I can’t. Not when there’s something else next to the Bordeaux, something that shouldn’t be here. And it’s sitting on top of a note that begins with the words…

“I’m sorry I failed you…”

“Come here,” Dax murmurs, reaching for my hand and pulling me down to the bed next to him. His gaze travels down my body, and in a moment of uncertainty, I vainly cover myself with my arms.

“Harlow, we don’t have to go through with it if you’re not comfortable.”

"But I am comfortable," I say almost angrily, removing my hands from my breasts before Dax kisses me again. And for the next few minutes, that's all he does—kissing me tenderly and calming the inner turmoil until it simmers down, replaced with the need to have him make love to me. Then he sits up and reaches for his jeans, pulling out a condom packet from his wallet.

The sight of a condom makes me blush even more, only because it’s been a long time since I’ve needed to use one. Jeff and I were trying to get pregnant then, not avoid it.

“You’re gonna need a few of those,” I blurt out before I can stop myself and hide my face against his chest as he lies on his side next to me. “Oh, God, I can’t believe I just said that.”

“Don’t worry, because we will need a few of them before the day is over.” Dax pushes me down on my back as he trails long, lazy kisses down my neck and breasts and my belly. Then he positions himself between my legs, parting my thighs with his hands just as I cover myself from him.

Wait! He's not going down on me, is he?

“Dax, wait…”

He looks up, his gaze questioning. But how can he understand what I cannot say? No one has ever kissed me down there. No one.

"Tell me you don't want me to, Harlow, and I won't."

"It's just that... no one's ever… and I mean, no one…” I can't continue. It sounds so sad. Pathetic. It’s like some undiscovered country, and in many ways it is. Even I haven’t discovered it yet.

Dax’s brow furrows as he moves back up, so we're level on the bed again. Great. Guess I just killed the mood. “What do you mean, no one?"

I cover my face in my hands, but Dax pulls one hand away. I open one eye and see him studying my face. "This is so embarrassing, Dax. But if you want to do it—"

"This isn't all about me or what I want, Harlow. It's about you and what you want. Would you want me to?"

His words surprise me. Not the question, but the other one, the one about this being about me and what I want. Sure, sex with Jeff had started out fun at first, but it almost felt like two nerds going at it, and before long, it became a duty because we wanted to have a baby so bad. And when IVF came along, it was almost non-existent. It didn’t help that he wasn’t exactly big, something I would never be caught dead mentioning to anyone, not even him. Instead, I told myself for years that it was the motion of the ocean that mattered, not the size of the ship.

“Would you want me to, Harlow?” Dax asks again.

Happy Friday!

I don't know if this counts as betrayal but I remembered that I borrowed a book from my school's library but it has no title, no cover and it was basically an old, worn green hardcover book with brownish pages. I found it in a corner of the library wedged between so many newer books, it was so out of place, that was why I picked it up and borrowed it (the book was dated back to the 60's - I think) and I had the crazy fantasy that it was the kind of book that will whisk you into another realm.

I finished the book in 5 days (because I was a slow reader back then) and till date I still remembered bits and bits of the storyline, it was about a young girl who moved to a home only to befriend a young boy (who is a ghost) but her family was against it, calling it her imaginary friend. I remembered the book giving me a creepy vibe but I loved it! I had to return the book in 2 days and I tried to copy down the entire book by hand, but I barely finished the first chapter before my one week period was up.

After I returned the book to the library (with a heavy heart), I tried to search for it again for the next week but it was gone, and I could never search for it again because I don't even know the name or the author, only known it as the mysterious, green hardcover book.

So I guess that's my book betrayal story.

Shadow of a Girl
by Shannon Greenland

Published by: Entangled: Teen
Publication date: September 19th 2016
Genres: Romance, Young Adult

Use cash and keep moving.

After I ran away from home, these were the two rules that dictated my life. Scoring a job as a roadie fit perfectly for what I needed. Traveling, cash, and life out of the spotlight. But when my path collides with West, the lead singer of Bus Stop, I can’t seem to stay out of his spotlight—especially since we’ll be touring together for an entire year.

West is determined to break down my walls. He won’t give up. And little by little they come crumbling. But if he knew what lurked behind them, he wouldn’t be so eager to get rid of them.

The more time we spend together, the more the lines of our friendship become blurred. He makes me dream of things I never thought possible. But while our friendship has been evolving into a romance, my secrets have been closing in. And just when I’ve decided to reveal my past to West, I’m confronted by it. The cost of my freedom could ruin the life of the guy I love…

His hand stills. He doesn’t move. Neither do I, and neither one of us speaks. Then West shifts first, gently pushing me away, and rolls to a sitting position. He rubs his eyes and looks around and finally with a sigh, glances over his shoulder at me where I still lay on the blanket.

“It’s late,” he says, “and you’ve got to be up early for work.”

I nod, completely confused that he’s the one who pulled away.

He gets to his feet and holds out his hand. “Come on, I’ll walk you to your room.”

I let him pull me up, and together we fold the blanket. But as I come toward him with my ends of the blanket, he slides one arm around my back and holds me to him. “Hug me,” he whispers. “Please?”

His words liquefy my insides, and I don’t hesitate as I slip both arms around his waist and lay my face on his chest. With the blanket smooshed between us, I listen to his heartbeat as he pulls me in snug, resting his head on top of mine. Gently, he rocks me, humming a song I don’t recognize, but the tune buzzes through me, and I sink further into the embrace.

We stand this way, gently swaying, as he hums the whole song. I haven’t cried in many years. The last time I did I was in excruciating pain. So when the wetness pools in my eyes, I blink my lids, surprised, realizing they’re tears of happiness.

Exactly what tears should be.
