Moving on doesn’t always have to mean goodbye.

Widowed makeup artist Jane Sullivan is more comfortable keeping her husband’s memory alive than dating a pool full of sharks. Ella, her 4 year-old daughter, is her whole world.

When Jane meets Lucas Oliver, famous cover model, it’s hate at first sight. His playboy persona rubs her the wrong way.

Accustomed to every woman fawning over him, Lucas is drawn to the shy, uncompromising single mom and completely melts at the sight of Ella. He is determined to convince Jane that sometimes a second chance can mend a broken heart.

Dear Natasha,

Thanks so much for hosting my tour for my latest novel Me Tarzan—You Jane. It’s a pleasure being in your Dreamland even though just virtually.
I hope you are ready for the 10 things you didn’t know about my novel because here we go:

  1. It’s rare I name my characters from the beginning, in fact I usually write several chapters before I know their names. With Me Tarzan—You Jane I knew my heroine will be Jane from the get go (as the title insinuates, right?). Lucas was Bentley for a while, but he never looked/behaved like a Bentley. Eventually, during a conversation with Jane he became Lucas and so he remained.
  2. Speaking of titles, those also come to me late in the story. Me Tarzan—You Jane came to me before I wrote the book and it stuck. Lucas is a total Tarzan-type (unpolished, blunt, cocky, and yet a softie underneath those layers), and Jane a total Jane (introvert, stubborn, plain and in many ways very black-and-white).
  3. The story is partially based on my experience at my first writers’ conference. In fact it’s there I got the idea for the book. Like Jane I was scared out of my skin and knew only one person, and like Jane I met a bunch of guys who were there for a contest for the best male for cover model. Spending time with those guys was my closest experience to a Chippendale show! (that’s a story for another time…)
  4. The final manuscript is a 1/3 less than the original. I pitched the story to Sue Grimshaw (Editor at Random House) and she liked it but said it’s too long (ideally romance novels are between 65,000-80,000 words). She was willing to take a look at it if I agreed to cut about 33,000 words. I said yes, but had no idea how to do it. I went home and practiced on two previous novels (Hidden Heart and A World Apart) and liked the end result. While Sue ended up rejecting Me Tarzan—You Jane its final version is a better product and the story tighter. I’m glad I did it even though it felt like a major liposuction!
  5. The cover is made out of two different photos, overlapped and combined. The original female had blonde hair and I asked the artist to change it to brown-ish, which is what Jane’s hair looks like. Not super convinced the male cover in the photo represents best Lucas (who is a much, much bigger guy), but the artist couldn’t find a better-suited photo, so I had to compromise with what she had.
  6. I love travelling (like you, Natasha!) but can’t always go everywhere I want to. But I can always send my characters places. Originally I sent Jane and Lucas to London but changed the location because a). Paris is the home of  fashion and b). Jane needed to be somewhat helpless in finding her way around, hence Lucas sticking around (to annoy her a lot!).
  7. Cameron, Lucas’ brother died in the original plot, but at the last minute I decided it was best for his mom to be the one dying. Cameron might have his own story and so, I needed him alive ;)
  8. Also in the original story, Jane had several girlfriends who were supposed to end up hooking up with Lucas’ friends, the other cover models Jane met at the writers’ conference. When I cut 1/3 of the story I had to let them go, sadly.
  9. Lucas’ character is inspired by famous cover model Jimmy Thomas who was the main attraction at the writers’ conference. He apparently was on over 3,000 book covers, which surpasses Fabian (who only did about 700 covers). That alone tells you how smoking hot Jimmy is!
  10. Last but not least, in the first few months of its publication Me Tarzan—You Jane made Amazon’s Top 100 Best Sellers List in its category. It’s been over two years since its release and the novel is nowhere near that with so many books being released every day, but as an indie author it is a great privilege to get that kind of recognition.

So the list is over and so my stay here. Once again thank you for having me over, Natasha! I hope your readers enjoyed the “secrets” behind Me Tarzan—You Jane.

Ever since I began writing and publishing books I’ve been on the run, always trying to write the next page, the next chapter, the next book. Every story was another journey, another discovery of what I could do and another evolution. All these years my motto was it doesn’t matter who I am or where I come from, but what I leave behind is. I thought I have it all figured out.

Socrates, one of the biggest philosophers to ever grace humanity once said, “I am talking a crock of s***.” I had no idea this expression dated hundreds of years ago and belongs to him, but who am I to argue with him? Needless to say, after some soul searching I realized my motto was a . . . pot of smelly stuff. I had a meltdown because, if you think about it, why would what I leave behind matter more than who I am here and now in this very moment? How will I ever know if what I left behind mattered with no way of seeing it? How am I gonna enjoy it? Think Socrates; does he know how much he touched humankind? Does he know people still remember him centuries later? And if he knows, does it make a difference?

I’m not sure. Frankly I doubt with all my heart it makes any difference to him. He’s gone, like I’ll be gone one day and instead of beating myself up to leave something behind me, I’m going to learn how to live here, now and totally enjoy it. No more worrying about tomorrow, but live today. No more five-year plans, but rather let the sun soak my skin, the air fill my lungs and the grass touch my feet. After all, I only live once.
